GOSHEN - Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County is one of 15 youth-serving organizations throughout Indiana selected as Inspiring Sports Grant recipients, awarded annually by Indiana Sports Corp.
The Boys & Girls Clubs will receive $4,500 to purchase portable baskets, discs and other supplies needed to help members learn about disc golf at Clubhouses in Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury and Nappanee.
Inspiring Sports Grants support organizations that provide underserved youth with the opportunity to participate in sports, fitness activities, and life-skills programming.
The grants are funded by the net proceeds of Indiana Sports Corp’s Inspiring Sports Charity Golf Tournament, contributions by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, AT&T, Group 1001, Samerian Foundation, and companies participating in the Indiana Sports Corp Corporate Challenge.
“Forging opportunities for Indiana youth is at the core of our mission at Indiana Sports Corp,” said Indiana Sports Corp President, Ryan Vaughn. “Our Inspiring Sports Grants provide more than 15 youth-serving organizations throughout the state the ability to expand their programs and better serve the youth they impact.”
In 2021 alone, Indiana Sports Corp impacted nearly 20,000 Indiana youth through its Inspiring Sports initiatives.
"We are always looking for opportunities to provide new experiences for our members. This grant will give us a way to teach them new skills in a sport that's growing in popularity," said Launa Leftwich, chief operations officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Elkhart County began operations in 1956, and today the Clubs provide programming and services for the most at-risk boys and girls within the community. Each day, the Clubs provide powerful relationships with the youth they serve and open avenues of opportunity for young people across their community by offering safe places where young people can learn, grow and succeed.
Founded in 1979 as the nation’s first sports commission, Indiana Sports Corp is a not-for-profit organization focused on bringing premier sporting events to Indiana to drive economic vitality, facilitate a vibrant community with civic pride and garner positive media attention.
